Patent applications (EPO)

Each year, the European Patent Office publishes a series of indicators on patent filings during the year . The statistics are available by country of application (with a ratio per inhabitant which makes it possible to highlight the innovation potential of each country), by sectors (digital communication, medical technology, computer science, etc.), by type of establishment (multinationals, public research, etc.) and by company. Data highlight the evolution over recent years.

Some statistics are also available to apprehend patent applications that have failed, detailing whether they were simply amended or rejected, as well as the duration of patent filing procedures. The different datasets are easily downloadable in Excel and the archives remain available on the site from one year to the next.
