Forest fires in Europe
The European Forest Fire Information System (EFFIS) provides rich and constantly updated information on wildland fires in Europe. As part of the EU’s Earth Observation Programme “Copernicus”, EFFIS is aimed at supporting the services in charge of the protection of forests against fires in the EU countries.
One of the applications developed by EFFIS, the Current Situation Viewer shows the fire danger forecast up to 6 days as well as daily updated information on active fires and burnt areas in Europe and in the Mediterranean area. Users can easily select the time interval and focus on specific regions – or even on specific fires: single fire reports and data are produced and can be consulted. On top of that, the application offers additional analysis tools to explore fire trends and estimates. Several data can be downloaded by users in .csv or .pdf format, others can be requested through a dedicated form.
EFFIS has also developed a global extension of its forest fire information system, the Global Wildfire Information System (GWIS), which comes with similar features.
