Droughts in Europe (Copernicus)

The European Drought Observatory (EDO) is a service curated by the European Commission as part of its Copernicus Emergency Management Service . The observatory monitors the current risk of droughts but includes also a rich amount of information about the past (up to 1950 for some indicators) as well as forecasts about the future. Indicators include data on precipitations, soil moisture and vegetation growth; a combination of some of them produces the Combined Drought Indicator. Data covers the entire European continent and it is updated on a rolling basis.

Information and data are mostly visualized through interactive maps or timeseries graphs. Visualizations are easy to customize and download, while most data can be downloaded in .csv or .json formats. Additional tools allow for comparison between indicators or time periods.

On top of maps and data, EDO retrieves news on droughts from portals taken into account by the European Media Monitor and publishes reports in case of imminent droughts.
